I have a ton of work in front of me, but I gotta do some venting.
The last couple of days has had me reevaluating the 15 years I’ve lived in Burlington, Vermont. With a few major exceptions, it seems like a total wash.
Today, someone I respect a great deal suggested that it can be insulting when I reveal grievances about B-town, because some people choose to live there. Insults are not my intention. On the other hand, I really can’t stand how deluded the so-called community can be. It’s like they all drank the Kool-Aid or something. High school was more realistic.
So if anyone feels like I’m burning bridges, fine. It’s not like I plan to stay chummy with the Queen City; in fact, I prefer to sever ties once and for all. That way I won’t come back, like 99.9 percent of the people who split. The town is like motherfucking Hotel California: you can check out any time you like, but you can never leave. And why would anyone ever want to?
To the handful of individuals who made my time in Burlington tolerable, I say thanks. To everyone else, well… Enjoy your town. Because it’s truly yours.
