This post is without a central motif. Hey, it’s my blog, dammit — I’ll write what I want to!
Brooke and I are heading to Silicon Valley tomorrow, where we’ll spend a couple of days up the internet’s butt. After that, we’ll swing up to San Francisco to hang with our pals Art and Nina. Don’t call it a vacation — I have a lot of work to do in the margins. But we hope to sneak some fun in there, too. Like maybe going to see Mammatus on Friday with Alen.
I made an attempt to get our other contributors to step up production, but one of ’em is about to get hitched, and the other is in Amsterdam working on some crazy thesis on the occult. But I’ll try to sneak in some posts, just for you.
Steve Jobs announced the new 3G iPhone today, at a $199 and $299 price point. That’s a few hundred dollars cheaper than the first-gen model that I camped out for last year. I’m still getting the new one, though. And so is Brooke, which means no more coveting mine.
I think I may come up with an Official Contrarian Contest to win my old iPhone. Any ideas what form this competition should take?
It dawned on me that I haven’t written about music much lately, either here or at my other outlets. I have been listening to some new stuff, though, some of which is under the Listening Pleasures bar on the left of this page. Perhaps I’ll blab about it all at a later date. Lord knows I’ve been neglecting my Aether Everywhere duties (more on that later).
Hey, didja notice I changed our site design? I was tired of the narrow center column and having to squint at the light blue font on a white background. If you can’t see it, just refresh your browser. And do let me know what you think.
Me and the wifenstein have been busting ass to get our new place ready for move in. Last weekend, we were forced to lug 11 huge ‘n’ heavy boxes of hardwood up five flights of stairs, after spending half the day waiting for Home Depot to pull our order. We stacked the wood in the back of the rented truck and drove it over to our new home, only to discover that the condo elevator was broken. Suffice it to say, I filled my exercise quota for the month. (Which is pretty sad.)
The flooring dudes are coming to install this gorgeous hardwood in our master bedroom on Monday. Not about to attempt that ourselves.
But we did our own painting, and it came out nicely. We’ve also got some carpeting that’s scheduled to be installed in one of our three bedrooms (my music room) within the next couple of weeks. When we get back, I’ve got some edging work to do, then it’s pack and move time. We should be in by the last week of June, woo-hoo!
Did I mention we’ll be living in the gorgeously verdant Takoma Park? This DC ‘burb is the late great John Fahey‘s old hood; he even named his record label after it. Maybe I’ll be inspired to record some deep-psych acoustic folk.
That’s all for now, gotta go throw some clothes in a suitcase. Send your good flight vibes my way. . .
