All week I’ve been hearing my Democrat friends visibly freaking out over how the campaign has shifted to favor McCain and how Obama is doomed. I would like to take this opportunity to ask you all to take a deep breath, relax a bit and remember why we started down this road in the first place.
A couple things to remember: The media LOVES a horserace and even when there isn’t one, they’ll go to extreme lengths to create one. Seth Walls from the Huffington Post has a great piece today about how Gallup is fudging their sampling to give the impression that McCain is up in the polls. Does a McCain "surge" or a "Palin effect" make for a better story? Sure! But is it what’s really going on? Not so much.
Secondly, the GOP ticket is on the trail right now LYING THEIR WHITE ASSES OFF. They’re repeating the "bridge to nowhere" falsehood over and over again despite it having been debunked by no less than fifteen major media outlets. They realize that when it comes to issues that really matter to Americans (the economy, Iraq, healthcare, education, etc) they’ve got nothing. So instead, they’re focusing on "sexism" as a response to every criticism.
Obama releases a detailed education plan and what’s McCain’s response? To lie and claim that he tried to give Kindergarteners "comprehensive" Sex Ed. They’re lying to America by suggesting that if we just "drill, baby drill," then all of our problems will be magically solved.
The next few months are crucial for sure, and Obama does seem like he’s a bit rattled lately. But once the debates start and the media gets its hooks into Palin, I think we’re going to see a happy ending.
