Just when you start thinking that the guy can’t be all bad, John McCain went on Fox News Sunday w/ Chris Wallace and Wallace brought up the negative robo-calls that have been going out around the country (even in liberal Massachusetts). For those of you who might recall the 2000 election, Karl Rove‘s goons put out robo-calls saying that McCain had fathered an illegitimate black baby and McCain was furious and swore that he would never run a campaign using such hideous tactics. Well he’s losing now, so all bets are off. He’s even hired the same creeps the Bush campaign used in South Carolina in 2000 to do it. Not only did he "not repudiate" the use of the misleading, scurrilous calls, but he defended them calling them "absolutely true."
The man has lost it. He’s sacrificed every shred of decency and credibility he had left and, god willing, after November 5th we’ll never have to hear from this asshole again. It’s bad enough that he’s using this crap, but to hear him vigorously defend the slime is just appalling.
A few months ago, if you had asked me if I would be comfortable with a McCain presidency, I probably would’ve answered in the affirmative. However, after having seen the way he’s conducted himself and his campaign over the last two months, I can’t wait for him to slink off into the long goodnight.
Fortunately, our friend Barry seems to be taking it all in stride, saying that, "you really have to work hard to violate Governor Palin’s standards on negative campaigning."
Fuck you, John.
