Please indulge the following pimpin’ for my fave local rag, Washington City Paper. I do write for them, after all.

WCP has had a rough year. Yet despite having been bought by Atlanta’s Creative Loafing, layoffs in the editorial and art departments and the bankruptcy of its parent company, City Paper managed to turn out a lot of killer issues, including the latest — a “best of 2008″ music and arts roundup that includes top ten lists from the rag’s many fine contributors, myself included.

I’ve also got a two-page spread on DC band The Cassettes, who released a bona fide tape, Countach, in 2008. The Cassettes are one of my favoritiest acts in the area (they actually made my top ten list), and frontman Shelby Cinca (ex-Frodus) is, in addition to being a kick-ass songwriter/guitarist, a laugh riot. You can read the piece here, but locals are advised to pick up a (free) copy, because the accompanying pictures are Teh Awesome.

Did I mention I’m going to Jamaica tomorrow?
