Ahhh, such classy people, the Bush Administration…
As many of you might recall, the Obamas had requested to move into Blair House, the White House guest residence that has traditionally been the abode of incoming presidents prior to moving into the Presidential Mansion, a few weeks early so that their daughters could start school on time without having to deal with the stresses and distractions of two moves in as many weeks. The excuse the White House gave for rejecting this request was that it had already been booked and the Obamas were more than welcome to move in on January 15th, the date that most President-Elects arrive in Washington.
For weeks, the wonks and wags have been speculating who could possibly take precedence over Barry and his family. Last night on “Countdown,” Bloomberg reporter Margaret Carlson ended the chatter by revealing that the VIP guest is none other than former Australian Prime Minister, John Howard, who is in town to receive a Presidential Medal of Freedom for backing Bush on Iraq and being the only other asshole who wouldn’t sign the Kyoto Treaty. Apparently, Howard is the only guest staying in the 199 room residence. To further twist the screws, it seems as if he was asked to stay there AFTER the Obamas had requested to move in early. Granted, the Obamas are staying in a very nice hotel, but inconvenience issues aside, this snottiness on the part of the Bushes is costing taxpayers tens of thousands of dollars in hotel costs and the expense of adding an extreme amount of excess security for the incoming President. Frankly, I think I’d have rather they just took all the “W’s” with them instead of throwing this tantrum.
