After some eleventh-hour hedging by a few pissy Republicans, Hillary Clinton has been confirmed by the Senate as our next Secretary of State.
Now, I call the Republicans pissy because some of them are. But I understand where they’re coming from, particularly Dick Luger (R-IN), who called Clinton the “epitome of a big leaguer,” but wondered if her credibility could be reconciled “with the sweeping global activities of President Bill Clinton.”
Hmm, is “sweeping global activities” some kind of euphemism?
In related news, Eric Holder‘s confirmation as Attorney General has been delayed a week. Yes, those wily Repubs are at it again. Still, Holder will very likely make it — I heard one talking head say the Senate would “pass President Obama‘s nomination of a ham sandwich.”
Come to think of it, a ham sandwich would’ve been preferable to previous Attorneys General Alberto Gonzales and John Ashcroft.
