Dick Cheney is awesome. I bet Al Gore didn’t have his own death squad. And forget about Dan Quayle — that dude would be lucky to be allowed safety scissors. InfoWars:
Revelations that a political assassination unit which reported solely to Dick Cheney was in operation during the Bush administration are absent the fact that the unit in question, the Joint Special Operations Command, has been active for decades, has been deployed domestically in the U.S., has killed U.S. citizens, and is an integral part of Barack Obama’s expanded wars in Afghanistan and Pakistan.
JSOC is a “highly specialized” unit made up of mostly Delta Force soldiers and SEALs. Um, wasn’t Chuck Norris in Delta Force? (Larry the Cable Guy was in Delta Farce, which we shan’t mention again.) So what does this good time gang get up to? If you answered targeted assassinations of US citizens, you win a date with Meghan McCain (chub-chasers not eligible).
The current scuttlebut about JSOC comes from foreign affairs reporter Seymour Hersh, who called the unit “an executive assassination ring” that has “been going on and on and on.” Apparently, the last administration thought they were 50 flavors of awesome.
“Under President Bush’s authority, they’ve been going into countries, not talking to the ambassador or the CIA station chief, and finding people on a list and executing them and leaving,” Hersh said at a recent speaking engagement. The JSOC are “a special wing of our special operations community that is set up independently,” he said. “They do not report to anybody, except in the Bush-Cheney days, they reported directly to the Cheney office. . . Congress has no oversight of it.”
So, business as usual for Darth Cheney. But about those US civilians. . . what’s that? They were just Christian cultists from Texas? Never mind. InfoWars:
It was also reported that Delta Force were involved in the largest ever single act of slaughter of civilians by law enforcement in US history — the 1993 siege on the Branch Davidian compound at Waco.
In 1999, Alexander Cockburn and Jeffrey St. Clair revealed that Delta Force units based out of Fort Bragg had been enlisted as part of the assault team on the Branch Davidian Compound. 76 people died in the siege, including 21 children and two pregnant women.
Apparently, none of Obama’s executive order reversals mention ditching the Joint Special Operations Command. Probably because JSOC has a major role to play in Obama’s broadened Pakistan adventures.
In other news, I spent a good portion of a house party with an ex-SEAL/CIA guy who now builds military bases in Afghanisatan. Putting on my best Seymour Hersh face, I asked what inspired the “enemy” more, religious fundamentalism or anti-Americanism? He replied without a moment’s pause: “Definitely anti-Americanism.” That’s both good and bad news, in my opinion. It’s good news, because perceptions can be changed. It’s bad news because you can’t do it with ordnance alone. I can only hope the President and his advisors understand the distinction.
