Actually, it’s probably not possible to ruin Christmas, considering the brazenly commercialized conceit it’s been for, I dunno, the last century or so. But everyone’s favorite Grinch, Bob Dylan, is committed to making the holidays that much more awful through the “gift” of music.
I first heard about Dylan’s Christmas album a few months ago, when it was an early exclusive for Citibank customers. I actually devoted some time to trying to figure out whether Creepy Old Bob was playing some kind of Andy Kauffman-style meta-prank, or if he really, truly wants to secure his position as Hell’s troubadour. After a while I got tired and forgot all about it.
Until I stumbled across this video for Dylan’s “Must Be Santa”:
Can we just go ahead and put up the “closed for business” sign on the Universe?

This is perfect fodder for my yearly “Have a very Hebrew Christmas” mix that I put together every year, which consists of Jewish folks singing Christmas songs.
Thanks. I think.

It’s definitely the most Jewish-sounding Xmas song I have ever encountered.

Oh, c’mon now, Casey. You want the same ol’ drivel that everyone else does? You want yet another Sarah McLachlanesque version of Jingle bells? At least this one has humor, development, arc, and some awesome accordion playing. Kudos to Bob for daring to be, yet again, a little bit different.

I like to pick on Bob just to piss you off, Rick. You know that!

This videoseems severely edited – I imagine there’s a ‘November Rain’ length version of this video, but stylistically more like ‘Sabotage’ and ultimately a platform for Bobby to say Fuck the World in significantly greater detail.

Actually, I gotta say — I love this song and video. I mean, I know I was poking fun and everything, but it’s really hilarious and entertaining.
Damn you, Dylan!!!!!!!!!!!!
