Matt Crawford, the village's perenially disliked real estate maverick, has had charges brought against him for misrepresenting his finances to a bank's lending dept. His partner and tireless doormat through it all (or, most of it... she left him for awhile when the stress of the trial was making him impossible to live with) is Lillian Bellamy, rebellious daughter of one of the village's more prominent families. She's halfheartedly accompanied him on his trial-jumping dash to Costa Rica in an attempt to make him see reason, although I find her so annoying I wish she'd stay gone as well. I mean, she should just grow a pair and leave him for good but that seems unlikely.

The question of the village shop is classic Archers: current events infused with progressive social commentary. It's clear the owner (Peggy, Lillian's aging mum) can't turn a profit on the store anymore... but it's more than just a business, it's the village shop! And what's the working-class Linda Carter to do, who's been running it for years and depends in it for her livlihood? Is there a compassionate middle ground between economic pressures and community value? And they haven't even brought up the fact that Peggy's granddaughter us dating Linda's son! Awwwwkward!

This is better than Real Housewives of Atlanta! Is that man running from the law to San Jose, California? His wife's phone conversation with her sister - she said so much by saying so little. And that poor couple and their floundering shop. Will they go full co-op?
