I’ve never been to Japan, but I have spent time absorbing their culture, from ancient poetry to anime, from Zen Buddhism to Monster Zero. The news coming from the island is immensely troubling, and my heart pours out to those enduring such tribulation.
News broke today that a third reactor in Fukushima is facing meltdown. I can’t imagine what it must be like to be a resident of Japan at this moment. More than 10,000 are feared dead following the tsunami, and survivors in the country’s northeast are now under the threat of radiation contamination. It’s truly a devastating situation.
I’m just back from a phenomenal trip to Toronto, and am in preparation for a weeklong adventure in Austin for SXSW. But it all seems trivial compared to the momentous calamity in Japan. Because it is.
