First off, ewwwww.
We may be late to the internet party with this, but have you seen any of the Russian advertisements where Vladmir Putin is put up as some kind of virginity-taking stud-for-hire? It’s hard to tell if they’re completely serious, but they certainly are well produced. Ostensibly, the campaign is meant to inspire the country’s youth (particularly the ladies!) to vote. We’re not sure how being violated by an ex-KGB autocrat who enjoys shirtless horseback rides is supposed to encourage civic engagement, but maybe it’s cultural.
Video #1: A doctor talks with a young woman about being safe, “especially the first time.” Smoldering looks are exhanged. “Perhaps I don’t need… it,” the girl says with a suggestive lilt. “Yes you do,” the doctor replies, forcefully stamping her papers. “And it’s right that you want it for love. I totally support your choice.” The camera follows the doc’s knowing glance to a wall calendar featuring Putin. “With him it will be safe,” he assures. Next, the girl is seen walking into a voting station while the words “Putin. The first time – just for love” appear.
Video #2: Another attractive young woman is visiting a fortune teller. The mystic says, “let’s find out, cutie, who is intended to you by destiny.” To which the girl replies, “You know, I wish it to be for love — It is my first time.” Same deal with the polling station.
Elections are on Sunday. We’ll just have to see how many “virgins” are left in Russia after that…
